Single mobile call can cause a plane to crash, reveals leaked study

London, June 11: A leaked study has warned that using just one mobile phone or electronic device during a flight can cause a complete systematic failure of the plane.

Testers discovered that a single Blackberry or iPad could cause the autopilot to disengage and critical warning lights to come on. Even the instruments that guide pilots in bad weather can also be damaged by the electrical signals from such devices, leading to catastrophic consequences.

The confidential study by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) found that over six years there were 75 separate incidents, which caused concern. But a previous probe by the UK Civil Aviation Authority found just 35 safety alerts blamed on phones over the same time scale, reports the Daily Mail.

According to ABC News, out of the 75 incidents, 26 affected the flight controls including the autopilot and landing gear whilst seventeen affected navigation systems. Some 15 caused problems for communication systems and 13 produced electronic warnings, including some for the engine.

IATA experts have called for passengers to stop ignoring warnings about electronic devices.

LILY ALLEN THEMED CLICKJACKING ATTACK IS NOW HITTING FACEBOOK WALL

This time again a new clickjacking attack on the facebook, number 1 social networking website. Scammers always try to tke advantage of social engineering and scamming tricks. Facebook is trying everything to reduce spamming but scammers always get their way.
According to security researchers from Sophos who spotted the attack, the spam messages spread by the scam's victims read: "Lily Allen shows her breasts on British television! [LINK] In a broadcast on Channel 4, the singer Lilly Allen shows us her beautiful breasts." "That's probably not the kind of thing that pop star Lily Allen wants spreading around on Facebook on the very same weekend that she's getting married," Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley noted.

Hope so you people don't fall prey to this scam

Facebook Privacy: How to Block Facial Recognition

You know those really unflattering photos on Facebook that you untagged at lightning speed? Now might be a good time to delete them...or at least check up on one new privacy setting. Yesterday, security firm Sophos issued a warning saying that Facebook rolled out a feature that recognizes your face in photos, prompting your friends to tag you.

Some Facebook users in the United States have had this feature since it was first announced in December. The difference: During the beta, there was no setting to opt-out of appearing in tag suggestions. As of yesterday's rollout, however, you must now adjust a setting in order to opt-out.
According to Facebook, this facial recognition feature uses a comparison of photos you're tagged in to suggest that friends tag you in new photos. The site says that this feature is intended to save you time: Instead of tagging the same friends in 25 photos you just uploaded, you can now apply one label to multiple photos in one step.
Facebook has automatically opted you in to this new facial recognition feature, which means your friends will see suggestions of photos in which to tag you, unless you change the setting. To turn off this feature, go to "Account ," then "Privacy Settings" and select "Customize settings." In the second section, "Things others share," click "Edit Settings" next to "Suggest photos of me to friends."

The Impact Of Apple And Twitter On Facebook

Yesterday Apple made a huge announcement that Twitter would be deeply integrated into the company’s new operating system. How does this impact Facebook?
Apple says w that third party developers can quickly implement Twitter application programming interfaces for user authentication, a feature that Facebook has offered for a long time now.
The result is that Twitter will probably become the most dominant identity provider on the world’s best known smartphone. However this will not kill Facebook for websites. Instead, Facebook’s identity authentication service will continue to thrive despite this new pact.

There’s no doubt that the new partnership between Apple and Twitter was a major blow to Facebook. As Marshall Kirkpatrick put it, “iOS apps will look like, feel like, read from and publish to Twitter like never before. And they’ll do that in many cases instead of using Facebook.” My summary: Twitter may be used to authenticate iPhone apps, but they still don’t know who my friends are.

The Context Graph And Identity

Over the past couple years, much of the Internet industry has been focused on identity. With the rise in privacy-related news stories and new services like Facebook for websites (previously Facebook Connect), the attention on identity is not surprising.
But it’s becoming increasingly clear that identity is not the end game. Yes, identity helps identity providers like Facebook and Twitter know the activities of its users. The more each company knows about its users, the better their advertising can become.
But let’s break down for a second the type of information that Facebook really has about me, the user:
  • My Facebook friends: For each user this is different. My mom, for example, tends to friend people she has become friends with in the past few years and her family members. I, on the other hand, have befriended people I’ve known since high school as well as people who have befriended me because they read this site (something most users don’t do). Does Facebook know how I met those friends? No, but the site definitely has plenty of clues in the form of profile data (schools I attended, etc.).
  • My status updates: My status updates range from posts about Facebook news, to stock analysis, to random questions on my mind at any given time.
  • My Facebook messages: I simply don’t use Facebook messaging as a primary form of communication with friends because it’s not easy to manage. While there are reports that millions of younger users use Facebook messages as their primary messaging system, most people I know use it as a secondary communication channel. Facebook chat also serves as a great way to get in touch with people you might not typically be able to.
  • Photos I’m tagged in: I’ll be honest here: I’ve used Facebook to document the past six years of my life.
  • Applications I install: I’ve stopped using Facebook applications, but for the hundreds of millions of users playing games on the social network, the apps provide valuable information.
  • Sites I visit: If a site has the Facebook Like button, Facebook knows whether or not you’ve been there. While they may not publicly state your interests on your profile based on the sites you visit, they definitely collect this data. Once you click a like button, that interest is then made public.
  • The articles I like: This is combined with the previous item.
  • The pages I like: This information is used to assist Facebook in creating targeted advertising. This happens to be a limited selection of my interests however as I do not spend a lot of time carefully crafting my list of interests. While I’m sure there are plenty of people who do, this is not typically the most accurate picture of my interests.
After listing everything out, it’s definitely difficult to argue that Facebook doesn’t have a lot of information about me, or that they have a poor perspective of who I am. If a random person viewed my Facebook profile, they could definitely learn a lot about me. Compare this information with the volume of information that Twitter has about me:
  • Who I follow: From Twitter’s perspective, who I follow means who I’m interested in. What they write about is supposed to be what I’m interested.
  • Who follows me back: These people are my friends.
  • Who I reply to: If I send a reply via a message beginning with @,there’s a good chance that I’m interested in you in some regard.
  • Who I direct message: If I send a direct message to someone on Twitter, there’s a good chance I’m interested in them.
I think it’s pretty clear that there’s no comparison between the two in the type of information held about each of their respective users.

Context Is Key

Despite Facebook’s impressive volume of information about who I am, for most developers, picking a primary identity provider is dependent upon the relevance of the information provided by each identity provider in relation to the information that I’m looking to store.
If I’m a game developer, I’m going to want to know which of your friends you are most likely to play games with. Facebook can’t provide me with that information, although I could try to collect as much information about your friends in an effort to determine those friends who you are most likely to play with.
As a developer, if neither identity provider provides me with information that’s relevant to my core value proposition, I’m going to go with whichever one is easiest to implement and/or assists me in growing my user base.
For Apple’s iOS, Twitter will become the de facto identity provider for such developers. For Facebook, such a move won’t have as dramatic an impact as you’d expect.
Facebook would argue that knowing who a person’s friends are is a critical first step for a developer, and as such, the social network should be the identity provider any developer selects. If you choose to implement Twitter in your app, great.
While it’s hard to argue that Facebook’s impact on the app ecosystem isn’t significant, the unanswered question is whether or not all the future large applications will be built on top of Facebook’s social graph.
Watching how the Twitter partnership with Apple plays out will help determine the true impact that Facebook will have on the global app ecosystem. In the mean time, I’d have to argue that the fact that Twitter doesn’t know who my friends are is a pretty gaping void.
Readers, how do you think the new Twitter partnership with Apple will impact Facebook?

Twitter to introduce URL shortener on it’s website!

Twitter last month bought TweetDeck as a defensive move. It has introduced a new notification system where @mentions and retweets are notified to users via email.

This is a clear sign of Twitter ramping up and bringing out features which will encourage people to use Twitter apps and it’s website a lot more than 3rd partyservices.
Today, Twitter has introduced a URLshortening service on its website. This means, when you tweet a long URL from Twitter.com, it automatically shortens the URL.

Twitter.com’s Link Shortening Features

Once you type in a link into the Tweet box of the website, a message will appear telling users that the URL is being shortened.

Now once the URL is shortened, it will show the short-URL link pointing to the domain it is directing towards. icon wink Twitter to introduce URL shortener on its website!
This new feature on Twitter, will be rolled out over the next few days. At the moment my account has not been enabled with this feature, but it should be soon available to everyone.
This is a very good idea by Twitter, because a lot of new users to Twitter will be able to sharelinks more easily than before from the website itself. Also as t.co is used for the URL to be shortened, it ends up giving a warning to users in case the link has security issues.
Now, once they add analytics to these short URL, Twitter could possible wipe out the 3rd party developer environment around it completely. Something that might upset a few Twitter users but some might want it that way. What are your thoughts?

Would you sell your kidney for iPad2? A Chinese teen did

Everyone loves to get their hands on their favorite gadgets one day when they have enough money to afford it or you love it so much and sell out your kidney for it? Well, a teenager in China named Zheng is something more than huge fan of Apple iPad2 and he sold his kidney to buy it because he couldn’t afford it. He sold his kidney for an amount of 2000 pound sterling so he could buy an iPad2. Kidney is one of the most important organs of our body, and thousands of people die every year because of kidney failure. He actually sold his kidney to some underground organ traffickers who offered him huge amount of 20,000 yuan, and this amount is equal to $3,000 or £2,000. As the boy is young, he thought this is the best way to get money rapidly by selling one of his organs which is more important than he think. Now you would be wondering that where was his family when this all happened? Actually, Zheng did this without telling anyone, and when his mother found out that her boy had a dangerous surgery, she contacted the local police and complained. They are still searching the traffickers involved in this disturbing accident. Zheng is now feeling ill and his health is getting worse.

Well people, would you sell your kidney for your favorite gadget? I am sure you wouldn’t, but these types of accidents are happening everywhere nowadays especially with teenagers. I love iPad2, but what Zheng did is not love, its craziness. So young boys, watch out because organ traffickers are always targeting teenagers.
